MEET NICKY-BABY.
This is Nicky-baby. He’s my eleven year old nephew from the US. And he has a blog, which you can find HERE.
I started this blog for Nicky-baby a year ago and have written a bunch of posts for it. Slowly but surely, however, he has been picking up the pen himself—which, of course, was my intention from day one.
But alas, blogging has met with stiff competition for Nicky-baby’s heart. His main passions—soccer and eleven year old girls—have been jealous mistresses. So I thought I’d do a little PR today, in the hope that some extra traffic (and comments!) to his blog might inspire Nicky-baby to resume his blogging with renewed vigor. And, in the process, allow Uncle Sal to retire from his ghostwriting duties (not that I mind ghostwriting).
A few of you—like Kim, Thomas and their son Pickles—have already found their way to Nicky-baby’s blog. And I hope you do, too. Why? Because the future of blogging lies with today’s youth.
And I’m sorry, but with the exception of Pickles...none of us qualify as “today’s youth.”

Lisa: Your is good advice. We have, however, several safety systems built into Nicky-baby's blog. First, I constantly monitor his blog and have administrator rights. Second, his personal email address isn't publicly available. Third and most important, any Internet wierdos would be very sad to meet-up with Nicky-baby's father (i.e., my brother). He is literally fifty pounds heavier and four inches taller than I am.
Sal
Yeah, I wondered about that too..what do you think, Pickles just started his own too, and at first I put comments moderation on it, but then took it off, and just had a very long talk about internet safety....what do you think?
kim:)
btw, when he gets bored of blogging, will you guest speak for his blog too ;) kidding hehe
You sure he wants comments from middle-aged housewives? :-)
I think as long as a kid's blog is supervised by an adult, there's not that much to worry about. Most of the creepy stuff I hear about seems to happen in chat rooms and the like. With blogs you have the option of monitoring things more closely.
I'll send my kids right on over to say hi to Nicky-baby.
well, off i go!
Hey there ... he's cute, I wrote a few comments and resisted writing that I come from the land of the Lord of the Rings, since I'm traumatised by what it's done to house prices and tourism since I flew out.
I did confess to NZ though :)
From the links he's got, it looks like he's hooked on Football! (Soccer to you!"
There's still hope for the beautiful game in America!
I'll hop over and have a look at his blog. Very cute kid. Orange is a big soccer fan, so I'll send him over too (as soon as he returns from Germany). No wait. I get him first ;-) OrangeX, that is.... Hehe!
OMG! You won't believe this... My confirmation code for this comment is "LOVBED". Uhh. Does that kid read your blogs?? I'll shut up now before I do more damage :-)
And what do you mean "we don't qualify for youth". What about young at heart???
Yeah. Soccer and girls he ties to a tree with her swet-shirt are his favourite passtimes. LAMHO!!! Great kid. I would have gotten along very well with him!
Hey everyone:
Thanks very much for injecting a little life into Nicky-baby's blog. Now I'll have to twist the screws to get him to respond with a post (preferably one not involving Woodstock, Bigfoot or climbing Mt. Everest drunk).
Nicky-baby is indeed a soccer fiend. And a damn talented one. He's been playing since he was 5 or 6, and is on the travelling team.
As for tying his girlfriend to a tree with a sweatshirt...I'm not sure about the background of that one. We should at least be thankful that it wasn't a cactus.
Thanks again to all my spirited blogger friends. And now...I'm off to check out Pickles's blog.
I was going to say the only way I could help ya out is if I either sped up producing a few little ones who could read and write or if I got a few other 9 to 12 year old I know to read... Don't think any of that will happen, but I'm up for a look..
Sal, go ahead and put a link on your page and nicky's that would be great, this morning at 6am *me totally asleep* he yells....."I've got comments!!!!!"
You have no idea how much this kid struggled with writing and reading 3 years ago, he's never had a problem expressing himself verbally, the teachers have all said his comprehension and verbal skills are super advanced, but to get them on paper, he had major difficulties. Somehow, thomas started applying the french school system tricks to him and he just soared, well that and i grounded him from that awful gameboy ;)
I'm so impressed with this little boy, he's a great kid to have:)
thanks for your words to him, they were so inspiring to him!
Okay Sal, I'm more than willing to be a sponsor of your nephew's blog. And yes, CS is right, I am a soccer fan. Not as much as I was 20 years ago (uhh, 20 years??? Ugh, I'm getting old...)But anyway, you're right, the youth has the future and the POWER to blog. So, meet me at his site from now on :-)
Mr. X (or can I call you "Orange"):
Hey...you can't abandon me totally!
That nephew of mine! Stealing all my readers. Hmph!
Anyway...welcome back from Germany. I hope you had plenty of good beer while there.
Sal
